Sexual Harassment, Rape and their Fallout

So, about 2 weeks ago there was this thing on a professional wrestling show called Impact by a company named TNA that has been connected to Sexual Harassment. I will simply direct you to this link to find out an unbiased description of it (there are biased articles floating around) with a short video showing what happened.

First, I am going to focus on the subject matter, Sexual Harassment and its related crime Rape. While the second is considered a major crime and the first viewed as a big deal, these particular offenses cannot be handled too quickly. Any ‘justice’ should be done but not by fast responses and not by ‘just anyone,’ today it takes trained investigators who know details that have to be considered and looked into for a thorough and proper handling of whatever happened.

You have to consider things such as fake claims for any reason such as revenge or attention getting, perceptions of all involved, in the case of Rape collecting evidence, dealing with anyone close to those involved and their possible reactions plus the effects, not just physical, on the person wronged. That’s a lot of work and takes time to accomplish so quick judgments don’t ever work, sadly we seem to live still in a an age where some want to react/respond quickly to such things combined with it seems a growing dissatisfaction in any Justice system and those who serve in it. It leaves me wondering what it says about people.

I am also amazed regarding the viewpoint on those who get targeted by these two allegations. If a woman is the target, it seems many think if she had a problem she would have spoken up, these people fail to grasp not everyone and their reactions are the same. Having grown up in a family with three sisters, I have learned there are times when a woman will outwardly appear to laugh something off but is actually bothered by it, they just don’t express it outwardly initially for a variety of reasons such as fear of ridicule, alienating people or worst of all being on TV and having to keep up appearances. If a guy is the target, still we have the image of guys having to tough it out so at times they will not complain because of the perception of being weak. Personally I don’t agree with any of these reactions though I do understand they happen.

There is also the fact I know that in cases of fake accusations, what any men are put through can, not always but can, lead to a suicide event, I even had that as one of my points in a previous blog entry about the letter I wrote Congress regarding the handling of these situations when I was in the US Army. Further such information reveals there are people who have to be considered that by the average commenter/writer are not, spouses, children, relatives, etc. If any organization is part of such events, their public image gets added on.

As for the particular situation that encouraged me to write this:

– Given how many ‘Team Aries’ and ‘Team Hemme’ type comments I have seen I don’t see a point just adding to that mess. I thought stuff like this was over some time ago regarding any type of celebrity/entertainer. A lot of the comments I have seen in articles range from assumption to outright stupidity.

– Amazing how dog piling on that are the number of writers making articles that include bashing other writers making articles. Some even state, ‘why not drop it?’ to which I ask, ‘if you wanted it dropped, why did you write yet another article on it?’ That includes you Chris Cash of Wrestlezone aka Mr. Hypocrite.

– So many comments on Aries and Hemme but none on anyone connected to them. Ms. Hemme is known to have a husband, not sure if Mr. Aries has any spouse or kids. If you think they might not be affected, you don’t understand the subject.

– Not one person considered the company’s image. One reason I actually like TNA in this era when professional wrestling is not getting good ratings is that they don’t treat their female performers in a disrespectful fashion. No mandatory Strip Matches, Pillow Fights, Mud/Jell-O Wrestling or similar. If I wanted that, I don’t need pro wrestling for it, I know where to find it. Don’t waste my time telling me about performers agreeing to that kind of activity, some do but some only do it because they think they have no choice. So blowing off the incident doesn’t work because it changes the company’s image and can change viewership aka ratings. No smart business owner would do that.

Side Note, my spell checker doesn’t like Ms. Hemme’s name, it keeps wanting to change it to:
Hemmed
Hemmer
Hemet
Home
Hem me
Hemi
Hammed
Hammer
Hume
She must really curse spell checkers and auto correct. Smile with tongue out
